Our Story
Edd the Florist is a testament to the American dream. The family-owned shop was first purchased by the Wilz family in 1956.
Margaret Wilz immigrated to the United States from Germany at 17 years old, followed by her husband Karl. They traveled by train from New York through Chicago and finally to Ottumwa in search of where to begin building a new life together.
Once there, they bought a flower business called Edd the Florist. They couldn't afford a new sign, so they kept the name and got to work establishing strong family and community ties. For more than half a century, the Wilz family has dedicated themselves to the flower shop and the community of Ottumwa. The business remains in the Wilz family today with the 2nd generation running the shop.
Under Hans' leadership, the flower shop has grown to include one-of-a-kind gifts, including gourmet food items, candies, candles, bags, and more.
What You Can Expect
As a local, family-owned business, you can rest assured that when you call our store, you're going to talk to a person who works here and who is going to take care of your order. Even when you call our store after hours, one of the owners is answering that call, not a phone service. Our goal is to have clear and honest communication with our customers so we can meet their needs.
Our staff members have all been with us for 10+ years. We're the type of place where our customers have regular orders and say things like, "Cathryn knows what I want" or "Mary Sue always does my designs."

Our shop is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
We are closed on Sundays. Holidays hours may vary.
To help assure on-time delivery during the busy holiday season, place your order at least one day prior to the following major holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, Easter, Administrative Professionals Week, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
Our shop will always be closed on the following holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.

Delivery policy
A local delivery fee of $5 will be added to each order, for each address. (For deliveries outside our local delivery area, this fee may vary), refer to Areas Covered.
U.S. orders must be received before 1:00 p.m. in the recipient's time zone to assure same-day delivery. Orders received after that time will be delivered the following day.
We will do our best to accommodate deliveries at specific times of day, but we cannot guarantee it.
We are unable to make deliveries on Sundays. Deliveries requested on this day will be delivered the following business day.
Delivery of orders to rural route addresses or cemeteries cannot be guaranteed.
We will be happy to accept your international orders if you call our shop directly. We are unable to accept international orders over the Internet.
Substitution Policy
Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
